Open Doors Eligibility Requirements
You can enroll in Open Doors if:
- You live in or out of the boundaries of the Federa Way School District.
- You have dropped out of high school.
- You never enrolled in high school.
- You are homeless.
- You have participated in Special Education or have an I.E.P.
- You are an English Language Learner.
- You have been expelled or suspended.
And:
- You have not met high school graduation requirements.
- You are 16-20 years old on September 1 of the current school year. Once eligible, scholars may continue enrollment through August after turning 21.
- You are more that one year (366 days) past your original graduation date.
- You are significantly credit deficient (see below for how to calculate your credit deficiency ratio)
- One of the agencies listed below has determined you have unique needs that can't be met by attending a traditional high school:
- Department of Social Services Case Managers
- the Juvenile Justice system
- School personnel like a counselor or administrator that is district-approved
- A community agency which provides educational advocacy services
And ONE of the following must also be true:
How to Calculate Your Credit Deficiency Ratio
Have you been continuously enrolled in high school? Divide the total amount of credits earned by the total credits attempted.
Since you started high school, have there been semesters that you were not enrolled in school? Divide the total amounts of credits earned by the total amount of credits you had an opportunity to earn.
Credit Deficiency Required by Graduation Year
2024: Ratio must be less than 0.65 (or fewer than 3.9 credits if enrolling during Semester 1; or 5.85 credits if enrolling during Semester 2).
2023: Ratio must be less than 0.70 (or fewer than 8.4 credits if enrolling during Semester 1; or 10.5 credits if enrolling during Semester 2).
2022: Ratio must be less than 0.75 (or fewer than 13.5 credits if enrolling during Semester 1; or 15.75 credits if enrolling during Semester 2).
2021: Ratio must be less than 0.75 (or fewer than 18 credits if enrolling during Semester 1; or 20.25 credits if enrolling during Semester 2).
2020 & 2019: Automatically eligible; never met graduation requirements
